At our Clintwood Health and Beauty Clinic, our experienced medical staff and laser operators have the tools and experience to drastically reduce the effects of acne and the scars it leaves.
The appearance of whiteheads and blackheads that typically occur during an acne attack are caused by an infection of the skin and the buildup of the p.acne bacteria and oil are trapped beneath the skin surface. Breakouts are caused by a number of factors, including environment, age, health, stress, and gene.
Our painless treatment is performed in two phases. During the first procedure, laser light is applied to kill the p.acne bacteria. During the second, the oil producing glands are shrunk so they produce less oil. This two-step process prevents future outbreaks of acne. The procedures last about fifteen minutes to an hour; they are painless, and patients can resume normal activity immediately after treatment.
Scars due to acne outbreaks are treated similarly to wrinkles and other skin blemishes. use of a laser promotes the growth of new collagen, filling scars from both the inside and out. Skin discoloration can be treated in a similar way to pigmented lesion removal. After treatment, your skin will appear healthy and smooth.
Using a variety of advanced lasers and other technologies, we can bring your acne under control, and using cutting edge technology, achieve acne scar reduction, improving your complexion and confidence. Using our leading edge lasers, we reduce the possibility of future outbreaks, smooth you skin and improve your outlook.Acne is experienced by as many as three out of four teenagers. Hormonal changes during adolescent years stimulate the sebaceous or oil glands, producing more sebum (oil), increasing the risk of acne. After the age of about twenty, hormones settle down and most people are no longer affected by acne but, many continue to be affected much longer. Acne can be aggravated with use of birth control pills, use of oil based cosmetic products, stress, and menstrual periods.
Causes of acne:
Oil produced by sebaceous glands is trapped in tiny pores or follicles, causing the follicle wall to bulge. If the pore stays closed, it creates a whitehead and if the pore stays open, the top surface of the plug may become darkened, causing a blackhead. In both cases, the bacteria, P acnes, thrives in the clogged follicles. When the bacteria and pus leak from the follicle into the surrounding tissue, pimples are formed. Many myths surround acne: many believe it is caused by lack of hygiene, it only affects teenagers, junk foods are the major cause, and that acne will just go away by itself. These fallacies have deterred many from seeking the appropriate acne treatment, prolonging the ailment unnecessarily.
Cures for acne:
Doctor Saado will determine the severity of your acne and will select treatments most appropriate for you. Treatments may include topical antibacterials and antibiotics, oral antibiotics, comedolytics (such as Retin-A™), sebostatics (such as Accutane™), astringents and exfoliants.
Acne Scar Reduction and Treatments:
Using our high technology laser equipment, we are able to kill P Acnes bacteria, reducing the risk of future outbreaks. Microdermabrasion is used to heal the scars of old outbreaks, making the skin smooth and natural. In severe cases, other treatments may also be recommended, including:
- Injections with Collagen, Cymetra™, Dermalogen™, Restylane™, and Hylaform™. These "fillers" may be used to treat shallow and deep acne scars. The fillers are injected into the area of the scar, smoothing depressions. The fillers give immediate results but, touch-up treatments may be required every six months to two years.
- MicroDermabrasion polishes the skin, smoothing the scar tissue caused by previous outbreaks. Topical anesthetic is applied prior to the treatment and most patients only feel slight discomfort during the treatment. The treatments are progressive and are applied through a course of weekly or monthly sessions.
- Laser resurfacing gently vaporizes the damaged or acne-scarred skin to reveal the smooth, fresh skin underneath. Scars are removed in a precise, rapid, bloodless fashion achieving excellent results. A topical anesthetic is applied to the area prior to treatment, causing minimum discomfort during the acne scar reduction procedure
Doctor Saado will recommend the best treatment option to ensure the highest level of acne scar reduction for you.
